Akshay Pujari

Bioinformatics and Software Engineering

Akshay Pujari holds a master’s degree in engineering from The University of Massachusetts Amherst. His interests and background are in the intersection and connections in the fields of Engineering, Biology and Medicine. He worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in Vascular Biology and Biofluids Laboratory with Dr. Juan Jiménez. The focus of the lab being experimental cardiovascular studies, Akshay’s research focussed on studying the lymphatic system in vivo in mice. The work explored and studied several lymphatic fluid flow characteristics, vessel contraction patterns through complex velocimetry and image analysis techniques. The biological data was analyzed to understand the effects of lymphatic valves, differential flow patterns and their effects on endothelial cellular phenotype with a particular focus on understanding inflammation, disease onset and metastasis. With the diverse and cross-disciplinary nature of the research, Akshay pursued coursework from mechanical and biomedical engineering, biology, animal science and computer science disciplines. Post completion of his masters work, Akshay worked at early-stage drug discovery company, DiCE Molecules in Redwood City, CA. His contribution included wet laboratory experimentation supporting production of DNA-encoded chemical libraries, engineering R&D and bioinformatics. Akshay joined Rubedo Life Sciences in January 2020, primarily in the bioinformatics team. He is passionate about science and unification of disciplines to solve new problems relevant in understanding and improving human life.
